Opel has revealed that its upcoming convertible will be known as the Cascada - and if that isn't enough to whet your appetite, the news comes with a telling teaser image.

The four-seater Cascada will be the third new Opel model to be unveiled this year, following the overseas launch of the Mokka crossover and the diminutive Adam city car.

Opel is playing the company cards close to its chest, although it has confirmed one important detail: the Cascada's size, and the segment it will play in.

Measuring 4.7 metres long, the new Opel is longer than Audi's A5 Cabriolet and the BMW 3 Series Convertible - coming in at 4.62 and 4.61 metres respectively.

Those details put to rest any thoughts of the Cascada debuting as a mere convertible version of the Astra, which only reaches 4.7 metres in its wagon form. (This is likely to be the same platform beneath the Cascada.)

As a five-door, the Astra measures 4.4 metres long, and the three-door is the shortest at 4.3 metres.

Opel promises a new level of premium quality in the Cascada, with a number of upmarket features and technologies featured throughout. We'll have to wait until its unveiling before those elements are detailed, however.

The teaser image shown here reveals that the new cabriolet will feature the same diving belt-line worn by its stablemates, while spy photos caught by TMR suggest we'll see a new evolution of Opel's front- and rear-end styling.

Watch for more details on the Cascada to come out of this month's Paris Motor Show.
