We’re now most of the way into October, but the Australian new-car market still has a handful of new offerings due over the next 12 days.

Models like the first-ever Lexus NX and the all-new Mazda2 will hog headlines, but the next two weeks will also see the TMR team test a few extra-special vehicles.

This week, Peter will hit Victoria’s Yarra Valley for a run in Volkswagen’s facelifted Scirocco R and updated Tiguan SUV, along with new ‘R-Line’ variants in the Golf, Beetle and Tiguan ranges.

On Wednesday, Tim will head into Melbourne for a special closed-course drive of Renault’s all-electric Kangoo ZE van and Twizy ‘quadricycle’ models.

Neither can be found on the local market, but, while the Twizy is here exclusively for promotional duties (and a spot of political campaigning), the Kangoo ZE is already engaged in an Australia Post trial that could eventually lead to a wider market launch.

Later in the week, Tim will visit Melbourne’s Motorclassica for another spin in the GLA 45 AMG - including a track run - and to report on the local unveiling of a new Mercedes-Benz model that will launch here in 2015.

What can we expect? Mercedes isn’t saying…

Then it’s onto the Australian launch of the ‘small to medium’ Lexus NX, which arrives to take on premium offerings from the small BMW X1 and Audi Q3 to the midsized X3 and Q5.

Next week’s NX launch will mark the first drive of local-specification models, following July’s international launch event. (Check out that earlier review here.)

Tony will travel to the Gold Coast next week for a run in Volvo’s 2015 V60 Polestar, followed immediately by the Australian launch of Mazda’s all-new 2 hatch.

Revealed earlier this year, TMR last drove the new Mazda2 in August. Those were overseas models, however, hurled around a soggy track in the north of Japan. This time, it’s the Australian spec, on Australian roads. Stay tuned for that.

Finally, MINI’s first-ever go at the conventional 5-door hatch, the new Cooper 5-Door, will hit Australia later this month. Andy will be on the scene for that one, tossing the new hatch and some backseat passengers around Adelaide.

And what of November? Next month, you can look forward to TMR’s Australian launch reviews of the new Hyundai Genesis sedan (driven by TMR in Korea), BMW’s compact i3 and the all-new Lexus RC.

Mike will head to China for a special Ford unveiling, and Tim will hit California for the 2014 LA Auto Show.

Plenty to come… stay tuned to TMR for all of this and more.
