New South Wales Police Minister Troy Grant has attacked a modified version of the popular Grand Theft Auto gaming series.

The version has been altered to contain NSW Police vehicles and officers, and is accurate enough to include even local area command identifiers.

Players are able to run down, shoot or kill NSW Police officers within the game, and Mr Grant has labelled the new version “perverse”.

“[The game] gives the gamer a false impression about what the role of police is,” Mr Grant said, speaking with Seven News.

"There's a fear that this desensitises people to the real risk the police face and I find it offensive.”
