Nissan has splattered a pair of teaser images across the internet today, offering a first look at what could be a new sports model for the Japanese carmaker.
Bound for next week's Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil, the new concept looks to be a two-door sports compact - possibly a roadster - inspired by the likes of the Juke crossover and the hero GT-R coupe.
"The showcar will dazzle on two counts," Nissan's "Chief Creative Officer" Shiro Nakamura said.
“It is a genuinely new and exciting concept, and it will explode with energetic design and impressive color that fully express our impression toward the country."
The relatively production-friendly look of the concept (at least from what we can see here) suggests that we could eventually see this new model in showrooms.
Representatives for Nissan have already confirmed to TMR that the next-generation Z car will be smaller, lighter and more affordable - to counter Toyota's 86 offensive. But, could an even more budget-focused offering be in the works?
Reports in recent months (and years) have pointed to a return of the Silvia/200SX model, traditionally a lighter and less costly alternative to the Z.
Speaking with TMR in August, Nissan's international Product Planning and Strategy boss Francois Bancon described the fan-favourite Silvia as a "business disaster," suggesting that a successor is not a top priority.
But, if Nissan can produce a Silvia-sized model at the right cost - potentially by sharing the potent front-wheel-drive platform of the Renault Megane RS - the project could be a mover.
For now, we'll have to wait and see.
