Nissan has chosen not to pursue new performance-tuned versions of some of its SUV and city car models, choosing instead to continue with its current range of Nismo-badged offerings.
That’s the word out of Europe, with the UK’s Autocar reporting that the Japanese carmaker has decided against the Nismo treatment for its larger SUVs and other models.
Such models include the Qashqai and X-Trail SUVs, which Nissan said will not follow in the Juke’s wheel tracks by offering Nismo versions.
Nissan’s Micra city car and Note MPV (not currently available in Australia) are also reportedly off the table for future Nismo variants, at least in Europe.
"X-Trail and Qashqai are phenomenally successful and they don’t necessarily need Nismo to give them that additional boost," Nissan’s Gareth Dunsmore said.
“For me, Nismo on a Micra or Note would [also] be wrong. It's not about forcing [the Nismo treatment] on to something it doesn’t need to be.”
