Nissan has rationalised its Patrol V8 lineup, removing the previous entry-level ST-L model and dramatically cutting the cost of entry for the remaining Ti and Ti-L grades.

The price cuts have been so dramatic that the Patrol Ti, previously the mid-grade model in the range, now retails for $69,990. Not only is that $23,400 less than before, it's $12,700 cheaper than the now-discontinued Patrol ST-L.

It's also much more competitively priced against the Toyota Landcruiser LC200 V8 petrol, which starts at $80,990 in base GXL guise. The Landcruiser diesel is a lot closer to the Patrol at $73,990, if not quite as well-specced.

The range-topping Patrol Ti-L is now priced at $86,990 before on-road costs, $27,500 less than last year's model. Estimated drive-away prices for both are listed at $77,424 for the Ti and $95,308 for the Ti-L.

Price tags aren't the only thing that have come in for attention. Satellite navigation is now standard on the Ti, as is Nissan's Off Road Monitor which displays information on steering angle, tyre slip and tyre pressure on the seven-inch touchscreen.

Live traffic updates are also standard on the Patrol V8, and Nissan's Hydraulic Body Motion Control suspension, top-down camera view and leather upholstery remain on the spec sheet.

The gear selector has also migrated from the left hand side of the centre console to the right, putting it closer to the driver and improving ergonomics.

The Ti is offered with an eight-seat layout, while the Ti-L has a more luxury-focused seven-seat configuration.

Under the bonnet, the Patrol is unchanged. The VK56 5.6 litre all-alloy V8 continues to thump out 298 kilowatts of power and 560Nm of torque; a seven-speed automatic takes power to all four wheels via an electronically-controlled 4WD system with low range transfer case.
