Nissan has announced it will withdraw its GT-R LM Nismo front-wheel-drive racer from the World Endurance Championship until further notice.
Following a somewhat poor showing at this year’s Le Mans 24-Hour, the carmaker was still viewing the car’s debut Le Mans appearance as a success when it declared “mission accomplished” following the race.
That mission, it would appear, was to reach the finish line. One of the team’s three cars did so as the last entry still running, albeit without enough laps under its belt to be classified as an official finisher.
But it seems the writing was on the pit wall, with reports last month suggesting Renault-Nissan Alliance CEO Carlos Ghosn was less than impressed with the team’s Le Mans performance.
And now, Nissan has made it official with Nismo President Shoichi Miyatani saying the team will switch from a race program to a testing program.
