Not that it needed it, but Nissan's GT-R hero will soon get a kick in the pants, with an extra 15kW wrung out of the big twin-turbo V6, and a host of other mechanical tweaks.

That update will make its way to local showrooms in March, Nissan Australia has confirmed, but what we shouldn't expect to see - at least not right away - is the GT-R's new Track Pack, revealed today.

Unveiled for the UK market, the GT-R Track Pack adds new brake cooling ducts in the front and rear bumpers, along with tweaked spring rates and a more hunkered-down stance. The exterior tweaks are rounded out by six-spoke Rays light alloy wheels.

(In point of fact, take a look at the images accompanying our article on the 2012 March GT-R update, and it's clear that Nissan is detailing a package we've already seen.)

Climb inside and you'll find a space where the rear seats would normally be, and the front seats have been swapped out for lighter Recaro pews, trimmed in high-grip fabrics. That's all capped off with a Track Pack badge on the centre console.

As for an Australian debut... don't write it off entirely, but Nissan Australia's Jeff Fisher has confirmed with TMR that the carmaker's local arm has no plans for the Track Pack at this stage.
