Nissan Australia has added a new Around View Monitor to the top-shelf Ti (petrol) and TL (diesel) grades in its Dualis and X-Trail SUV ranges.
Designed to assist in parking and reversing, the system utilises four cameras - one at each end and side of the car - to provide a birdseye view of the surrounding environment.
Normally the domain of more expensive luxury cars, the technology's arrival in Nissan's sub-$50k SUVs marks a step forward for safety in volume-selling passenger cars.
The Dualis continues to sell strongly for Nissan, with 792 cars sold in April, compared to 542 for the same period in 2011.
Overall in 2012, the Dualis (3437 sales) is led only by the Hyundai ix35 (3516), with the Subaru XV (3368) in third place.
The X-Trail is performing well in the medium SUV segment, leading the segment in 2012 with 5123 sales. The Toyota RAV4 follows on 4531 sales, with the Forester in third with 3874 sales.
