Nissan could soon take its iconic GT-R badge further than ever into supercar territory, revealing a sleek new concept today that might be our first preview.
Nissan describes the Concept 2020 as a 2+2 supercar with a racing-inspired aerodynamic body, representing "a vision of what a high performance Nissan could look like in the future”.
The GT-R styled (but not named) concept started life as a design experiment with Nissan Design Europe’s young London team, before landing the interest of engineers at the carmaker’s Atsugi technical centre in Japan.
At that point, the concept became the ideal tribute to the Vision Gran Turismo game, which has seen a number of carmakers revealing futuristic concepts for fans of the racing series to hit the virtual track.
"In July, automotive enthusiasts will be able to discover that performance first-hand when it becomes available to download in Gran Turismo 6, just as they did with the Nissan GT-R and Skylines from earlier episodes of the historic franchise," Nissan said.
It is known that Nissan is well into the development of a replacement for its R35 GT-R, which has been on the market since 2007.
But will we ever see this concept out here in the real world as the new GT-R?
"Nissan believes that the real-world is ready for the Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo," the company teased in its release today.
A production debut for the Concept 2020 in its current state is unlikely, of course, but we could see elements from its design in the next GT-R…
