UPDATE: Nissan Australia has confirmed these details with TMR today.

Nissan’s Almera light sedan will be priced sharply when it reaches our market in August, according to documents obtained by CarSales this week.

Motoring site Carsales has the details, based on a recent sales bulletin issued to Nissan dealers.

The bulletin reports that the Almera will be sold in two trim grades, with the entry ST manual starting at $17,990 drive-away, and the higher-spec Ti, available with an automatic only, priced at $22,490 drive-away.

Effectively a sedan companion to the Micra hatch, the Almera will go head to head with the Holden Barina, Ford Fiesta, Honda City, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, and category leader Toyota Yaris.

This pricing will effectively position the Almera at the lower end of its segment, beating the list price (minus drive-away costs) of the Fiesta, City, Rio and Yaris, while sitting just $1500 above the list price of the basic Barina sedan and $1000 above the basic Accent sedan.

Despite its strong pricing, the Almera will feature a generous equipment list, with both models featuring six airbags, stability control, ABS, bluetooth telephony, MP3 connectivity, trip computer and steering-mounted controls.
