The production version of the fire-breathing Juke-R might still be some way off, but Nissan has already started turning up the wick on its Juke compact crossover.

Making its global debut at this week's Paris Motor Show, the Nissan Juke Nismo shoehorns a little more muscle into the Juke's tiny frame.

Powered by a lightly-tuned version of the Juke's DiG-T 1.6 litre turbocharged inline four, power and torque have been given a mild bump to 147kW and 250Nm.

The Juke Nismo's turbo engine is paired with either a six-speed manual or CVT automatic, and is offered in either front wheel drive or all wheel drive form.

The 2WD Juke Nismo will sprint from zero to 100km/h in 7.8 seconds. The slightly heavier AWD version (which is only available with the CVT), takes 8.2 seconds.

Nismo, Nissan's in-house tuning arm, has also waved its magic wand over the Juke's suspension.

Spring rates are up by around 10 percent, and the damper calibration has been modified. Steering feel has also been sharpened via tweaks to the electronic power steering software.

However the most noticable changes are on the outside. Both the front and rear bumpers are unique to the Juke Nismo, with daytime running lamps incorporated into the former and a racy-looking faux diffuser moulded into the latter.

Other external features include 18-inch gunmetal alloys, deeper side skirts, a hatch spoiler and wheelarch extensions that mimic those on the Juke R.

Inside, there's more heavily-bolstered front seats, an alcantara-clad sports steering wheel, alloy pedals and a revised instrument cluster.

The Nissan Juke Nismo is expected to go on sale in Europe in early 2013. Pricing has yet to be announced.
