Jaguar is reportedly considering two distinctly different body styles for the next generation of its large XJ flagship.
The decision is expected hinge on interest in China, demonstrating the Asian market's influence on carmaker movements.
According to US website Edmunds, an evolution of the current model's modern styling is expected for Western markets, while China will get a more 'old school' design.
With China fast becoming the number one market for the XJ, the sales potential for a tradtionally styled prestige model - understood to be the preference among buyers there - is difficult to ignore.
A capacious back row is a proven decider in the Chinese market, meaning that a taller roofline for the second XJ bodystyle is also likely.
Further details on the next XJ are unclear, although Jaguar has already previewed a plug-in hybrid system that is likely to feature in the new model. This could reportedly improve fuel consumption to an impressive 4.0 litres / 100 km (70 miles per gallon).
Watch for more information to surface over the coming year.
