The next version of Apple's iPhone operating system build on the still-new Siri Eyes Free by transmitting data to your car's in-dash display screen, according to new reports.

While Siri Eyes Free allows drivers to interact with their iPhone through the vehicle's audio system, this next phase is expected to tighten integration further between the handheld device and the vehicle's infotainment system.

The new features will reportedly allow the car to take over certain functions of the iPhone, including displaying a unique version of Apple Maps and Siri on the dash display.

Drivers will be able to interact with the features in the same way they use their iPhone, with familiar menu and control options - both touch and voice - appearing in the dash.

According to tech site 9to5mac, Apple insiders have confirmed that the company is working with carmakers to upgrade their in-car connectivity systems to be compatible with the new iOS technology.

Adding credence to the report is news that Apple has posted job listings for developers familiar with in-car systems, with expertise in Bluetooth connectivity.

The report adds that a public debut may still be some time away, with extensive in-car testing still required and partnerships with carmakers still to be confirmed.

The new version of Apple's iOS system - to be known as iOS 7 - is expected to debut next month.
