Next Ferrari California To Get Modular Platform: Report

Modular platforms are all the rage these days. By building multiple models off scalable architecture with as many common components as possible, automakers are able to reap big savings on manufacturing, design and engineering costs.

And the higher the volume of cars, the bigger the savings. Volkswagen has the MQB and MLB platforms, Mercedes has MFA and MRA, Mazda utilises its Skyactiv architecture across its models and Toyota will roll out its TNGA platform shortly.

But if recent reports are to be believed, low-volume sports car maker Ferrari may soon debut a multi-fit architecture of its own.

According to US magazing Automobile, Ferrari will debut a new scalable platform under its next-generation California in 2017 (development mule pictured), which could eventually be applied to other models in the Ferrari stable.
