Subaru has confirmed that its new WRX STI hero sedan will debut in Detroit next week, less than two months on from the unveiling of its WRX sibling.
For now, that's precisely all that Subaru has confirmed, although reports in recent weeks suggest that we can expect a 2.5 litre turbo engine to again provide motivation.
Outputs and other details for the STI, however, are still yet to surface. In its current form, the STI offers 221kW and 407Nm of torque.
By comparison, the 'regular' new WRX sedan offers 199kW and 349Nm, produced by a 2.0 litre direct-injected and turbocharged 2.0 litre boxer engine.
The new WRX will hit Australia in March, and Subaru recently opened the order books for the first 100 examples. Local timing for the new STI will likely come in the hours following its Detroit unveiling.
