The Volkswagen-owned Seat will unleash its updated Ibiza Cupra hotbox on the European market in January, following its unveiling earlier this year.

The Polo GTI's Spanish cousin picks up limited styling tweaks, with the standout features including a sportier front bumper, along with a faux diffuser and centre-mounted exhaust at the rear.

The real fun is under the bonnet, where the Cupra is packing the same perky turbo- and super-charged engine that drives the Polo GTI.

As with the VW, power is rated at 132kW and 250Nm of torque, transmitted to the front wheels through a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.

Seat lists a 0-100km/h time of 6.9 seconds, and fuel consumption is rated at 5.9 l/100km.

Like the rest of the Seat line-up, you shouldn't expect to see this one in Australia. The Spanish brand has long been absent from the local market, and a return is not expected.
