Renault has confirmed its new Espace people-mover will make its world debut at next month’s big Paris Motor Show.

The carmaker has yet to offer any official preview of the new model, although it is widely believed that last year’s Initiale Paris concept is a clear look at what’s to come.

Those reports were given credence earlier this year when patent application renderings revealed a production wagon nearly identical to the Initiale Paris show car.

The new Espace has been a long-time coming, with the current fourth-generation Espace - not available in Australia - now on the market for around 10 years.

That absence from Australia is not expected to change, with local Renault boss Justin Hocevar confirming with TMR in May that, for now, there is no plan for an Espace launch.

“It is on our radar, but it’s a distant blip,” Mr Hocevar said.

“The trouble in bringing this vehicle to our market at this point in time is that that [people mover] market has just deteriorated to the point where it’s faded into obscurity. SUV has really taken over, the amount of crossover and 4x2 sales now is very high.”
