Nissan’s all-new Murano SUV has bowed in New York this week, on the tail of teasers and spy photos stretching back more than a year.

Slotting into Nissan’s range alongside the new X-Trail and Pathfinder, the 2015 Murano builds on the ‘out there’ styling of its predecessors to bring a more audacious option to the range.

The design of the new Murano is heavily influenced by the Resonance concept that debuted at last year’s Detroit Auto Show, donating much of its styling inside and out to the new SUV.

Full details on the new Murano are still to come, although Nissan has confirmed power will be provided by its familiar 190kW/325Nm 3.5 litre petrol V6.

Features will include an eight-inch display with multi-touch control, along with the NissanConnectSM system with satellite navigation and a suite of mobile apps.

Among the new Murano’s safety technologies will be Moving Object Detection (MOD), Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW) and Forward Emergency Braking.

Watch for more details to come this week.

Former Nissan Australia boss Peter Jones told TMR last year that the Murano will continue here - despite the Pathfinder now offering the same petrol engine with CVT combination, seven seats, two-wheel-drive and a cheaper price tag.

Mr Jones said there was sufficient demand for all of the SUVs in Nissan’s local range; the Dualis (soon to be Qashqai), X-Trail, Pathfinder, Murano and the much more heavy-duty Patrol.

Speaking with TMR today, Nissan Australia's Chris Jordan confirmed a timeframe for the new Murano's local launch.

"Nissan will introduce the all-new Murano to the Australian market in the second half of the 2015 calendar year, to be sourced from the Canton, Mississippi facility in the United States," Mr Jordan said.

More information on Australian timing and specification will be confirmed at a later date.
