Maserati’s upcoming Levante SUV has been brought a little closer to reality this week, thanks to a new speculative rendering.
This image, produced for enthusiast site TopSpeed, builds on an existing shot of Maserati’s first swing at a new SUV design: the 2011 Kubang concept.
The new rendering may be more accurate than most guesses, however, thanks to a series of design patent application drawings that surfaced online in May.
In line with those images, this new rendering upgrades the Kubang’s face with new headlights, high-mounted foglights and a broad new lower grille design.
A closer look reveals a tigther curve and sharper fold to the character line that reaches across the back quarter and into the rear doors.
A larger version of Maserati’s familiar three-port fender vents can also be seen, while a taller and more practical roofline stretches toward the rear.
The Levante is expected to make its market debut in the coming year, and a debut for either September's Frankfurt Motor Show or January's Detroit Auto Show is believed to be on the cards.
