Lotus is looking to make its next Elise sports car more usable on a day-to-day basis, according to reports out of Europe.
Speaking with Auto Express, Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales said the all-new Elise, due in 2019, will retain similar looks but be “modernised” at the same time.
Gales said the new model would also retain its aluminium-bonded chassis, and that maximising lightness was still a major priority. Rumours suggest the new Elise could be at least 68kg lighter than the current model.
“We’ve not yet completely defined the car, but one thing is almost certain - I want to stick with an aluminium-bonded chassis,” Mr Gales said.
“Look at the variations you can do: Elise, Exige and roadster versions. It is our intention to go that route with the next Elise.”
