Chevrolet has previewed a new logo for its upcoming new Corvette, while Hyundai is set to reveal yet another hot concept version of its Veloster small sports hatch.

The 2014 C7 Corvette is set to be revealed at the Detroit Motor Show in January, but for now, Chevrolet has revealed the latest version of Corvette’s classic ‘crossed flag’ logo.

Variations of this logo have been a mainstay of the Corvette since the original’s 1953 debut, with this latest version the sixth in the line.

“The all-new, seventh-generation Corvette deserved an all-new emblem. The flags are much more modern, more technical, and more detailed than before – underscoring the comprehensive redesign of the entire car”, VP of global GM design Ed Wellburn said.

Chief engineer of the C7 project, Tadge Juechter promises the new model will offer “design, refinement, efficiency and driver engagement that is second to none.”

The tweaked logo’s unveiling is likely to be one of many teasers released by Chevrolet in the leadup to the model’s debut in January.

Veloster Alpine Concept

Hyundai’s wild Veloster ‘Velocity’ concept will be joined by a slightly less gladiatorial ‘Alpine’ concept at this month’s SEMA show in the US.

Like the yet-to-be unveiled SEMA-bound 298kW Velocity concept, the Alpine concept is also a result of collaboration between Hyundai US and aftermarket tuners ARK Performance.

Designed specifically to appeal to ‘mountain sport’ enthusiasts (whatever that means), the Alpine concept makes do with a more subtle 173kW (up from a factory 150kW) tune to its 1.6 litre turbocharged mill.

“Our Veloster Alpine concept reflects the diverse lifestyle versatility we envisioned in the original Veloster concept," ARK Performance owner Ted Lee said.

"This extreme sports coupe concept will appeal to winter sports enthusiasts who love to carve the snow as much as a twisty canyon road”.

Mountain sport-specific elements include mildew-repellant leather trim, along with WeatherTek material used for other surfaces.

The Alpine concept’s exterior treatment includes a unique pearl white and blue paint sheme, bodykit, tinted lighting, carbon fibre bonnet and hatch panels, Rays wheels and Nitto tyres.

The Veloster Alpine and Velocity concepts will follow the similar but locally-developed Veloster Street and Race concepts that debuted at this week’s Australian International Motor Show.
