The next generation of Holden’s returning Astra, once again a rebadged version of Opel’s Astra, may have been given an early preview this week - via the Chinese market.

Holden will soon welcome the Astra badge back to its line-up, but the model we’ll see this year will be the same range sold locally in 2013 as an Opel.

This week, the Chinese arm of Buick released a teaser for its new Excelle - a range which, in its current form, shares styling and components with the Opel Astra and the US market’s Astra-based Buick Verano.

Whether this new Excelle will again share its look and platform with its German and American stablemates is unclear, but if it does, this teaser could be our first unadulterated look at the new Astra.

Chinese-market versions of Western models are often given their own unique styling, however, and recent spy shots of the new Astra suggest we can at least expect a different look to the Opel range’s headlights.

Watch for more on the next Opel Astra, and its potential for an Australian launch, to surface in the year ahead.
