New 308 GTi In The Works, Peugeot Sport Boss Confirms

The head of Peugeot Sport has revealed that work is underway on a high-performance GTI variant of the new 308 hatch, and that it could boast as much as 199kW of power.

In a presentation to journalists at Peugeot Sport headquarters in Velizy, France, Peugeot Sport Director Bruno Famin confirmed that the 308 GTI was one of its current projects.

“We are working on the new GTI version of the new 308, with possible engine [power] of 250-270PS,” Famin said.

An engine with 270PS (199kW) already exists in the RCZ-R, which uses a modified version of Peugeot’s familiar 1.6 litre turbo petrol four-cylinder.

The same powerplant featured in last year's 308 R concept (pictured), and its this engine, or a development of it, that would power the next 308 GTI.
