Automotive companies with performance products will be interested in a new endurance race for standard production cars at Sydney Motorsport Park next January 14-15.

Announced by the Australian Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) - for decades the promoters of the Bathurst enduros - the event has an interesting format of two five-hour races using the 3.9kms ‘Gardner GP’ circuit (the first starting in twilight on 14 January and he second the following morning).

In between, live music and barbeques are planned to lure race fans to camp trackside overnight (the mid-summer date should keep temperatures comfortable).

The ARDC expects some 50 cars will face the starter and has drawn-up a broad list of 200 eligible Production Touring Cars and Production Sports Cars to cover several classes.

While that list does not stretch to GT3 racers, the likes of Mitsubishi Lancer EVOs and HSV Commodores will be joined by some sports cars like the Lotus Exige.

According to ARDC CEO Glenn Matthews: “The technical regulations have been freed-up with several ‘common sense’ modifications to allow for some freedoms not otherwise allowed at alternative events.”

Entries open on 1 September and the ARDC is already fielding numerous enquiries from potential starters.
