Stylised renderings of a sleek Mercedes-Benz sedan have appeared on a German enthusiast site, pointing to a possible look for the next E-Class.

The images, which appear on website Mercedes-Benz Passion, show curvaceous front and side views of the car, with “W213” appearing in the top left corner. The recently updated E-Class range is known by the code W212.

However, the art is dated July 2011 - suggesting these may only be early experimental sketches, although it is not uncommon for a new model's design to be finalised many years in advance of its launch.

More, the images single out designer Hussein Al-Attar, who recently left the company to work on BMW's new 4 Series, so it remains to be seen what can be made of these images.

A distinctive headlamp design and a slightly smaller grill than that of the current E-Class are the only real clues to any future Mercedes-Benz models.

A profile view also shows the makings of a coupe design, but there are no clear images of the rear of the car.

As for the current E-Class, the updated 2014 range is set to reach Australian showrooms next month, priced from $79,900 plus on-road costs.
