Mustang Features And Power Figures Revealed For Australia Photo:

UPDATE: An earlier version of this story highlighted the stated but undefined differences in power outputs for the new Mustang, comparing this week's Australian data against figures released to the American market earlier this year.

It has since been confirmed that the difference is due to the standards of measurement used: North America's SAE system, versus the DIN system used here. Outputs will therefore be the same in both regions.

Ford’s all-new V8 Mustang will appear to be packing fewer horses than its American counterpart when it hits Australia late next year, but the carmaker has moved quickly to calm the masses.

Details for the new Mustang, making its first Australian appearance in coupe form this week, appeared to suggest lower power figures for our market than had previously been confirmed in overseas marketing material.

It was revealed today that the Mustang's 5.0 litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine will deliver the same 303kW and 525Nm in every market that it is offered.

Until now, Ford’s overseas marketing materials have confirmed only that the Mustang’s V8 will be good for “more than 420hp and 390lb-ft”, a difference in numbers now confirmed to be the result only of differing measurement standards in Australia and the US.

Still, it is unlikely that this news will diminish interest among Ford Australia’s claimed 15,000 customers that have so far rushed dealers for details on the new Mustang.

At 303kW and 525Nm, monumental figures by any standard, the V8-powered Mustang GT is likely to prove a popular car in Australia.

If it’s priced right, that is, and that’s one detail Ford will be keeping under its hat for a while to come.
