British sports car maker Morgan has unveiled a new version of its open-topped Plus 8 model to mark another milestone in 2014.
In 2009, Morgan celebrated 100 years of continuous carmaking by releasing the limited edition Morgan Aero Super Sports.
The centenary celebration this time around is more specific, as Morgan celebrates 100 years of manufacturing at its Pickersleigh Road address in England.
To mark the occasion, Morgan has let loose a limited edition Plus 8 Speedster.
The Speedster is powered by a 4.8 litre V8 engine from BMW, producing 274kW and matched with either a six-speed manual or six-speed ZF automatic transmission.
The zero to 100km/h sprint is over in 4.2 seconds, and top speed is listed at 237km/h.
Styling is unmistakably Morgan, including a ‘low-cut’ driver’s door and a leather belt to secure the engine cover, while the Speedster’s aluminium chassis enables it to boast a power-to-weight ratio to “rival any vehicle in its class”.
The British carmaker also says the Speedster will be available with a comprehensive list of options for each owner to customise their cars.
Exactly what’s on the options list (and pricing) is scheduled for release in the coming weeks, but several of the options are on display in images of the Speedster, including roll hoops, wheel options and a soft-top roof (see gallery).
Production for the 2014 Morgan Plus 8 Speedster begins in June, with pricing for UK customers listed at £69,995 (AU$126,023) plus on-roads.
