Updates to the 2017 Skoda Octavia range see the brand double down on its value for money approach, loading the range with a significantly boosted array of standard safety equipmet.
All variants in the four-model Octavia range now feature a rear view camera, adaptive cruise control, front assist with City Emergency Brake and multi-collision brake (to prevent successive collisions in the event of an accident), as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
On the entry level Octavia Ambition the newly added equipmewnt represents $4300 of extra equipment added to the standard features list, however the price rises by as little as $500 - although depending on the exact transmission and bodystyle the price rise may be as much as $2000.
Performance has also been given a slight tweak, with the 1.4 litre TSI engine of the Ambition proving 110kW of power and 250Nm, up from 103kW previously. Torque remains unchanged.
“As with all ŠKODA cars, the renewed Octavia was built on four pillars: safety, quality, more care for your money and carefree ownership,” Skoda Australia managing director, Michael Imer said.
“In all four of these aspects, a buyer can compare the Octavia in any of its versions to a same-sized prestige car and find that it is a superior offering. Closer to the Octavia’s price point, there simply is not a serious rival.”
Moving up to the Octavia Style adds features such as leather upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels, front parking sensors, fatigue detection, satellite navigation, and an eight-inch touchscreen. New features include a sports steering wheel, bi-Xenon headlights and LED taillights.
The top-spec Octavia RS remains unchanged and comes with a sports-tuned chassis, extended electronic diff lock, driving mode selection, and exterior sports styling.
Those looking to add a little of the Octavia RS’s sporting flair to an Ambition model can now also option the Sports Pack, with 18-inch black alloy wheels, a flat bottomed steering wheel, bi-Xenon headlights, auto lights and wipers, self-dimming rearview mirror and a black body pack incorporating the mirrors, rear spoilers and decal package.
Tick the Tech Pack option box and the Ambition adds 8.0-inch touchscreen sat nav, automatic parking, lane assist, 10-speaker audio, voice control and driving mode selector. The Style Tech Pack brings Keyless Go, lane assist, automatic parking, driving mode selector, and 10-speaker audio.
Adding the Tech Pack to an Octavia RS adds Automatic parking, lane assist, keyless go, and 10-speaker audio.
The Octavia range comes in a choice of three models (Ambition, Style, and RS), with a range of five engines 110TSI, 132TSI and 162TSI turbocharged petrol, or 110TDI and 135TDI diesel, all mated to DSG automatic transmissions, with a six-speed manual available for 110TSI, and 162TSI RS.
Skoda will also continue to offer the ruggedised 4x4 Octavia Scout - which adds SUV styling, raised ride height, and all wheel drive to the regular Octavia wagon.
Pricing excludes on-road costs.
