Aussie fans of Chrysler's muscliest models have been praying for rain in recent years, with the company's toughest local offerings restricted to SRT variants of the Grand Cherokee and the 300C.

In the Chrysler Group's homeland, classic badges like Charger and Challenger reign at the top of the range, while a new Viper is around the corner and the Caliber-replacing Dart sedan isn't far away.

In a couple of weeks, the brand's Mopar arm will unleash tweaked versions of the updated Dodger Charger and the new Chrysler 200 at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

Dodge Charger Redline

In the Charger 'Redline' (an old favourite right there), you'll find a 7.0 litre HEMI V8 crate engine, utilising a forged-steel crank and six-bolt mains, a roller camshaft and 11:1 compression ratio, cast-aluminium valve covers and billet fuel rails.

All of that is good for a handsome 440kW. Not enough to shut down the monstrous 485kW Shelby GT500 Mustang, but it's a good deal more squirt than the 346kW offered by the 'regular' Charger SRT-8 and its 6.4 litre V8 HEMI.

There's also a cat-back performance exhaust, a front-tower cross-brace and high-performance Mopar brake linings.

Mopar says that all of these items - and more - will be available to buyers later in the year, ranging in price and equipment levels and packaged in Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 lists.

Chysler 200

As for the 200 - another we don't get in Australia - Mopar has added a lowered coil-over suspension package, cold-air intake and a cat-back exhaust system. No engine tweaks here, but the exhaust should deliver a small boost in power.

Styling tweaks include a unique front spoiler, a mesh treatment to the upper and lower grilles, satin finish to the upper grille frame and beltline trim, blacked-out "200" badges and "hyper black" 18-inch S alloy wheels.

Australia

Whether we'll ever see either of these cars in Australia - even in regular trim - is unlikely. It's a reasonable bet though that the upcoming Dart small sedan will hit local showrooms after stocks of the recently-retired Caliber are depleted.

We can also expect the all-new 300C to arrive in the coming months. Stay tuned to TMR for more news on that.
