Britain’s Autocar reckons the Mitsubishi XR-PHEV concept vehicle - shown initially at Geneva in 2013 and in updated form as the XR-PHEV II (pictured) in 2015 - provides the best pointer to likely styling.
While that vehicle was claimed to be a front-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid, with a requirement for significant sales volume, expect the production version to employ turbocharged petrol and diesel engines and both 2WD and AWD drivelines.
Also in the pipeline for Mitsubishi is an all-new compact SUV (smaller than the current ASX) which is expected in 2019 - one year ahead of the all-new Outlander range which is tipped to once again include a plug-in-hybrid model.
