In 2009, Mitsubishi offered a first look at its next-generation styling language with the unveiling of the PX-MiEV plug-in hybrid SUV concept.

Fuelling talk of a new Outlander, the carmaker revealed an updated version of the concept last year, dubbed simply PX-MiEV II.

This week, Mitsubishi has revealed a single teaser image that hints at a new production model scheduled for a market debut later this year.

Before then however, it will appear at March's Geneva Motor Show in concept form.

Described as a "strategic and innovative premium vehicle," the new model clearly draws on the PX-MiEV's styling - but whether it will wear the Outlander badge is unclear.

Reports in the past year have pointed to a 2013 debut for a plug-in hybrid SUV, although the car is likely to wear the same body as the regular Outlander.

Watch for the new model's styling to filter down through the company's smaller and larger models, including the next-generation Lancer and Pajero models.
