Mitsubishi has issued a recall for its Outlander SUV in Australia this week, due to a potential problem with the front windscreen wiper system.

The carmaker has identified a weakness with the electric wiper motor, which may be subject to water ingress.

As the motor cools after the vehicle has been used, the breather hole may draw moisture into the motor resulting in corrosion over time.

Non-functioning windscreen wipers could pose a hazard to the vehicle occupants and other road users.

Affected Outlander models were sold in Australia between November 2006 and February 2013. A total of 46,263 cars are on the recall list locally.

The recall process will see the front wiper motor replaced.

Mitsubishi will attempt to contact affected owners once the necessary parts become available, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer or phone Mitsubishi Motors Australia on 1300 13 12 11.
