Mitsubishi will unveil the production version of its new Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) at September's Paris Motor Show, the carmaker has confirmed.
While the new model was previewed by the PX-MiEV and PX-MiEV II concepts, the SUV also appeared in production form as the petrol-powered 2013 Outlander earlier this year.
As with the regular model, the Outlander PHEV will carry much of the concept's styling, and will likely add a number of cosmetic tweaks to set it apart as the line-up's alternative-energy option.
Matching a 2.0 litre petrol engine to an electric motor mounted at each axle, the Outlander PHEV will offer three driving modes:
- Pure (electric-only)
- Series (electric motors supported by the petrol engine and a generator)
- Parallel (electric drive, backed up by the engine at higher speeds and with the electric motors assisting the petrol engine in acceleration)
Combined, the plug-in hybrid system lists a driving range of around 800 kilometres, with carbon emissions listed at a low 50g/km.
The petrol-powered 2013 Outlander range will hit Australia later this year, with details and pricing to be revealed closer to launch.
Local plans for the Outlander PHEV are unclear.
