Perhaps reflecting the changing nature of the Sydney suburb of Newton, on the fringe of the CBD and once decidedly blue-collar but these days very cosmopolitan and trendy, a Mini Clubman has joined the fleet at the local police station.
Adorned in the NSW Police colour scheme, the Mini Clubman is an ideal vehicle to navigate Newtown’s often narrow streets.
Fans of the two hit movies The Italian Job may be horrified that the Mini has traded places and is now used by the local constabulary but Newtown’s Detective Chief Inspector Crime Manager Damian Goodfellow reckons the compact police vehicle will be popular with local residents.
“We know it will be a great conversation starter as it will turn a lot of heads and generate a lot of interest in our local area; it’s such a great looking car,” Mr Goodfellow said.
