Sketches of what looks to be an upcoming MG SUV concept have appeared online, ahead of a possible public debut at the Shanghai auto Show later this month.

Dubbed CS, the pictured concept could represent a follow-up to the now Chinese-owned carmaker’s Icon SUV concept shown in Beijing last year.

Unlike the Icon, the CS looks to shun retro style in favour of a more contemporary design that builds on the existing MG3, MG5, and MG5 mainstream models available overseas.

Locally, the MG brand is set for a relaunch shortly with the MG6 small sedan and hatch, with the MG3 light car expected later in the year.

It is unclear what segment a production CS would target, but whispers suggest it uses the MG5 small hatch as its basis.

This would logically rival Nissan’s Dualis or Mitsubishi’s ASX, with MG parent company SAIC’s 101kW 1.5 litre turbocharged four among a list of engine possibilities.

Keep an eye on TMR for official confirmation of the CS concept, along with news of its likely Shanghai appearance.
