MG has unveiled its new CS concept at the Shanghai Auto Show this week, revealing plans for a new small SUV offering.

Chinese-owned MG has already confirmed that a production version of the SUV will hit showroom floors throughout China and Europe within the next two years.

MG’s British roots have not been lost on the new owner, with British designer Anthony Williams-Kenny leading the CS concept design team.

The company says the CS SUV “oozes British design flair while embracing the sporting DNA of MG”, aimed at younger fashion-conscious buyers.

No technical details or specifications have been released, but the SUV is likely to be based on the MG3 platform.

Australian distributor Longwell a toe-in-the-water exercise last week which will see the larger MG6 sold from a single Sydney dealership, with 20 more dealers to come in 2014.

The light MG3 hatch is expected to also join the range in the coming year.
