Last year, the rumour was that Merc's so-called SLC coupe would enter as a more affordable sports model below the hero SLS AMG.

A new report out of Europe this week however suggests the SLC is a go - but this time as a full-fledged successor to the SLS.
According to Germany's Auto Bild, the SLC will replace the SLS sometime in late 2015, roughly five years since the big supercoupe first debuted.
The report adds that the SLC will lose around 150kg of the updated SLS AMG GT's kerb weight, while offering more engine options.
The SLS AMG GT is available with just one engine, the familiar 435kW 6.2 litre V8, but Auto Bild reckons a new entry model will offer around 360kW.
Above that would reportedly sit the 410kW SLC S, while a 435kW model would sit atop the range, essentially representing the current model.
Expect Merc's new 5.5 litre bi-turbo engine to power the top models, replacing the older 6.2 litre engine.
That new entry model should also make the SLC a good price rival for Porsche's 911: in Australia, the SLS AMG will run you slightly less than $470,000, while the new 991 911 begins at $229,990 and tops out at $320,950 for the Carrera 4S.
