Mercedes-Benz has rolled out a pair of new special-edition models in Australia this week, one celebrating an anniversary and the other just for kicks.
First (ultra-luxurious) cab off the rank is the CLS AvantGarde 10 Edition, honouring 10 years since the first-generation CLS re-introduced buyers to the idea of a four-door coupe.
At the family-hauling end of the deal is the new ML 250 BlueTech Special Edition, adding a number of key features inside and out.
For the special CLS, there’s three versions on offer: CLS 500, CLS 250 CDI and the CLS 250 CDI Shooting Brake.
All three wear the AvantGarde 10 Edition badge, each adding an AMG styling kit, 19-inch wheels and LED headlights.
In the cabin, there’s heated front seats, Harmon Kardon Logic 7 surround sound and the AirMatic electronically controlled damper system.
Go for the top-spec CLS 500 version and you’ll also find DAB+ digital radio and Easy-Pack Quick Fold rear seats.

Merc’s Special ML
Joining the tweaked CLS pack is the new ML 250 BlueTEC Special Edition, bumping up the appeal of the entry model in the M-Class range.
Building on the existing ‘Convenience Package’, the Special Edition adds heated front seats and a 360-degree camera that offers an all-round view of the vehicle’s exterior.
Other safety features new to the Special Edition include Lane Tracking with Blind Spot Assist.
The exterior comes with some tweaks of its own, adding 20-inch wheels and Bi-Xenon headlights.
Features already standard across the M-Class range include Collision Prevention Assist, Attention Assist, Pre Safe and Adaptive Brake.
At $90,400, the Special Edition is priced at a whopping $9000 premium over the regular ML 250 BlueTec, but Mercedes says these extra features amount to a value advantage of $5375.
