One of the first examples of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class has touched down in Australia and has been immediately put to work as a promotional tool for Mercedes-Benz' upcoming dual-cab ute.

The car you see isn’t the production X-Class however, rather it is one of two concept versions first shown in October last year, and retains the oversized tyres, front and rear winches, and satin-finished paint from the X-Class’ first public outing.

The ‘powerful adventurer’ X-Class is here for promotional purposes, appearing at the recent Mercedes-Benz Vans dealer conference in Melbourne, giving dealers from Australia and New Zealand their first look at the X-Class ahead of next year’s introduction of the production model.

The production X-Class will use a modified version of the Nissan Navara chassis, with engines, transmissions, and suspension tuning to be developed by Mercedes-Benz. Interior styling and infotainment systems are also likely to be Benz’s own.

“Australia and New Zealand are critical markets for the success of the X-Class,” Mercedes-Benz Vans Australia and New Zealand Managing Director, Diane Tarr, said.

“The concept has been flown from Germany so our dealers can get a detailed briefing about the vehicle and continue their preparation for a successful launch of the X-Class in 2018.”

During its Australian visit, the X-Class concept has also been photographed in select Australian landscapes, though Mercedes-Benz has stopped short of displaying the concept publicly.
