Mercedes-Benz ‘Thinking Aloud’ About Allroad-Style Wagon SUV

The 'allroad': it’s the SUV for buyers who don’t necessarily want an SUV, and, if recent 'roundabout' comments from Mercedes-Benz can be used as a guide, we could soon be seeing one with a three-pointed-star on the snout.

The 'allroad': it’s the SUV for buyers who don’t necessarily want an SUV, and, if recent 'roundabout' comments from Mercedes-Benz can be used as a guide, we could soon be seeing one with a three-pointed-star on the snout.

We’re talking about the all-wheel-drive jacked-up station wagon, with the handling characteristics of a 'regular' wagon but with the underbody protection, tyres and raised stance to also handle light off-road duties.

Subaru’s Outback and Forster models are well-known to Australia buyers, while Skoda’s Octavia Scout recently re-entered the fray for local buyers with an all-new model.

Australian buyers will also have Volkswagen's Golf Alltrack to consider from October of this year, joining the Passat Alltrack in the carmaker’s AWD wagon range.

At the premium end, Volvo and Audi have the market to themselves in Australia, with the likes of Volvo’s XC70 and Audi’s A4 and A6 Allroad models.
