2012 SLK 250 CDI Revealed, Australia Under Consideration
Mercedes-Benz has released details of its upcoming SLK 250 CDI. It's the first time the SLK has been offered with a diesel engine, and according to the company's Australian arm, a local debut could be on the cards.

Mercedes-Benz has released details of its upcoming SLK 250 CDI. It's the first time the SLK has been offered with a diesel engine, and according to the company's Australian arm, a local debut could be on the cards.
Power for the SLK 250 CDI will come from Mercedes' 2.1 litre turbodiesel four-cylinder, producing 150kW and a very sweet 500Nm of torque. The 0-100km/h dash comes down in 6.7 seconds - just shy of the petrol SLK 250's 6.6 second run.
The 250 CDI's output puts it alongside the 1.8 litre petrol-powered 250 BlueEfficiency, but with an extra 190 of Newton's finest - and significantly greater fuel economy.
Paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission, the SLK 250 CDI lists fuel consumption figures of 4.9 l/100km - compared to 6.2 l/100km for the petrol 250.
On the features side of the story, the 250 CDI is equipped largely in-line with its petrol siblings, including the SLK's new panoramic Magic Sky Control roof.

Speaking with TMR today, Mercedes-Benz Australia's David McCarthy confirmed that the first-ever SLK diesel could join the local line-up next year.
"We're still looking at it. There's been no decision yet, but if we do bring it in, it likely won't be before the first or second quarter of 2012," Mr McCarthy said.
