Mercedes-Benz' hero SLS AMG supercoupe will soon have a little brother, and these new spy photos reveal that testing is now well under-way.
Known for now as the SLC, the new model is expected to utilise a shortened version of the SLS AMG platform, as shown on this SLS-bodied prototype.
While the spied test car is wearing most of its larger stablemate's outfit, it is clear that the new model's wheelbase is shorter, with standout differences including chopped panels and a shorter front overhang.
As a more 'entry level' offering, and with light-weight construction as a top priority, expect the SLC AMG to do away with the SLS AMG's gullwing doors
Targeted at Porsche's iconic 911 and Aston's V8 Vantage, the SLC will reportedly draw power from a new 4.0 litre V8 engine - although, like the Porsche and Jaguar's new F-Type, we could also see the new Merc offered with two engines.
If a less powerful (and more affordable) option is offered, we can likely expect the SLK's V6 engine to feature.
As with the SLS, the SLC will debut in coupe form, but a roadster - again to properly tackle the 911 and the F-Type - will likely debut sometime down the road.
We can likely expect the SLC AMG to make its international debut in mid to late 2014.
