UPDATE: Mercedes has unveiled the GLA concept, this article has been updated.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its new GLA small SUV, hitting the web in concept form ahead of its Shanghai Auto Show debut.
As expected, the compact crossover draws on the look of its A-Class platform mate, adding the usual SUV styling elements and meatier proportions to the mix.
While the GLA is a touch larger than the A hatch, measuring 4.38 metres long and 1.57 metres tall, both models ride on the same 2.69 metre wheelbase.
The cabin of the new crossover also borrows its fair share of A-Class elements, while adding a number of bespoke concept tweaks for the Shanghai show.
In concept form, the GLA is driven by the same 155kW 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine featured in the A 250 hatch and CLA 250 sedan, although a wider spread of options will likely come with its production debut.
A GLA 45 AMG model could also headline, powered by the same 265kW 2.0 litre turbo engine driving the new A 45 AMG performance flagship.
