Mercedes-Benz has an all-new version of its big GL-Class SUV on the way, but before it waves goodbye to the current generation, a new ultra-lux variant has been revealed.

Dubbed 'Grand Edition', the new top-shelf model goes on sale in Europe this month, ahead of the new model's expected 2012 debut.

Among its up-spec features are two-tone leather seats with contrast stitching and piping, along with a leather dash, door cards and armrests.

There's dark ash-wood highlights throughout the cabin, along with a black 'designo' roof lining, velour floor mats, brushed stainless-steel sports pedals and ambient lighting.

The interior tweaks are rounded out with a 'Grand Edition' badge in the centre console.

On the outside, the GL Grand Edition models get darkened headlights, a unique front bumper with LED daytime running lights, a larger chrome-trimmed grille and 20-inch light-alloy wheels.

In Europe, the Grand Edition package will be available with the 155kW GL 350 BlueTEC petrol and 195kW GL 350 CDI, through to the 253kW GL 450 and 285kW petrol V8 models.

Australia

Speaking with TMR today, Mercedes-Benz Australia's David McCarthy said the Grand Edition package is under consideration for Australia, but a decision has still to be confirmed.
