Mercedes-Benz G-Class Recalled For Steering Bolts

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall in Australia this week for its G-Class off-roader, due to a potential problem with the steering.

The German carmaker says bolts securing the lower steering joint may not have been tightened to specification.

Over time, the bolts may cause wear to the steering joint which may lead to a reduction of steering control for the driver.

The joint may be susceptible to breakage in extreme circumstances, but Benz says this is unlikely.

Regardless, reduced steering control may create a hazard for the vehicle occupants and other road users.

The recall process will involve an inspection of the necessary parts and repairs where required, performed at no cost to owners.

Affected vehicles were sold in Australia between April 2013 and April 2016, and around 170 are on the recall list for Australia.

Mercedes-Benz will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer.
