Mercedes-Benz F-125 Concept Previews The Merc Of The Future

Mercedes-Benz has revealed an all-new concept that offers a glimpse of the brand's far-flung future styling: the F-125 luxury sedan concept.

First it was the four-door coupe, now there's the two-door sedan. While neither is a brand-new idea, Mercedes-Benz has made a thing out of reinventing what those concepts can mean.

On the styling front, the F-125 features the now-familiar sweeping character lines along its profile, along with the half-ellipse glasshouse featured across most of the brand's current line-up.

At the front, the concept's headlights draw on the look of the Concept A-Class revealed earlier this year, while an all-new grille design previews what could be the next evolution in the front-end styling of the Mercedes family.

Under the bonnet - and under the body - is a newly-developed version of Mercedes' F-Cell system, which features a hydrogen energy source providing power to four electric motors.

Combined, the system produces 172kW and offers a driving range of "approximately" 1000km.

While its power figures are far from extraordinary, the concept's lightweight carbon fibre-reinforced plastic construction grants the F-125 a 0-100km/h time of just 4.9 seconds. Top speed is listed at 220km/h.

Don't expect to see the F-125 on the roads any time soon, with Mercedes describing the concept as a preview of what could hit showrooms in 25 years.

For now, we can likely except the sharpened headlights and integrated grille design to start appearing on new models in the coming decade.
