Mercedes-Benz has added a more practical variant of it’s newest E-Class range with the addition of the E-Class Estate, as revealed at the Mercedes-sponsored ATP tennis world cup in Stuttgart.

As with the smaller C-Class range, the new E-Class wagon takes the front styling of the sedan and adds a longer rear roof, with a more softly styled rear section compared to the outgoing wagon.

Internationally the E-Class range is set to include three diesel varaints, with the 110kW/360Nm E 200 d and 143kW/400Nm E 220 d four-cylinder diesels, and the 190Kw/620Nm E 350 d V6.

Petrol variants include the 135kW/300Nm E 200 and 155kW/350Nm E 250 four cylinder petrols and the 245kW/480Nm E 400 twin turbo V6 petrol. All engine variants are paired with a nine-speed automatic.

Crowning the range for the time being is the Mercedes-MG E 43 4Matic, with a high-output 295kW/520Nm V6 and all-wheel-drive, holding the performance title until a fire-breathing E 63 arrives.

Inside the E-Class Estate boasts 670 litres of luggage capacity with the rear seats in use, or an extra loading setting that liberates an extra 30 litres of space by setting the rear backrest in a more upright position.

With the rear seats folded, 1820 litres of space is available - including a floor area large enough to accept a standard European pallet. Mercedes-Benz will also continue to offer an optional folding third-row seat.

Self levelling rear suspension is also part of the standard E-Class estate features list, meaning that no matter the load up to 745kg in the vehicle or 2100kg on the towbar, the vehicle will remain level. Air Body Control full air-suspension is also available.

Like the sedan, the E-Class wagon will be offered with the optional dual-screen Widescreen Cockpit, Linguatronic voice control, and touch-sensitive steering wheel controls.

Mercedes-Benz boasts the the interior of the E-Class estate is one of the quietest in its class, with a reinforced body structure to help quell vibrations, additional noise insulation, additional body sealing, and noise absorption material in the wheel wells and under the seats.

Safety systems include Active Brake Assist, with incorporates autonomous emergency braking along with pedestrian recognition, Drive Pilot semi autonomous systems, Distronic adaptive cruise control, and Remote Parking Pilot, able to move the car in and out of tight parking spaces remotely with a smartphone app.

European roll-out for the E-Class Estate will occur later this year, with Australian deliveries scheduled to begin in 2017, with Australian-specific models and specifications to be unveiled closer to launch.
