The new Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake range now has its flagship, with the unveiling this week of the top-shelf AMG model.

As with its sedan stablemate, the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake is powered by Merc's new bi-turbo 5.5 litre V8 engine, producing 386kW and 700Nm of torque.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through the familiar AMG SpeedShift MCT seven-speed automatic sports transmission.

Despite its wagonesque form, the AMG-enhanced Shooting Brake is no slower than its four-door counterpart, listing the same 4.4 second 0-100km/h time.

AMG's Performance Package is also available, boosting output to 410kW/800Nm and shaving a tenth of a second from its (official) sprint to 100km/h.

In Europe, fuel consumption figures are listed at 10.1 l/100km.
