Mercedes-Benz has pulled the wraps from its brand-new CLA sedan in Detroit today, ahead of its late 2013 Australian debut.

Teased by the Style Coupe concept that debuted last year, revealing spy photos and leaked images in recent months have left Mercedes with few surprises.

Revealed here in CLA 250 form, the new four-door coupe range will begin with the 90kW CLA 180 model, moving through to the CLA 200, 250, 220 CDI diesel and, later in the year, the CLA 45 AMG.

In the 250, power is provided by the same 155kW and 350Nm 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine powering its five-door platform mate, the A 250 hatch.

The theme of sharing continues with the CLA 45 AMG, which will draw power from the A 45 AMG hatch's turbo mill producing upwards of 245kW and 400Nm.

The CLA 45 AMG will also get the same 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system bound for the hatch, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The AMG-tuned sedan will give Mercedes an advantage in its battle with rivals BMW and Audi, which offer only hatch models in the segment: the 235kW M135i and the 250kW RS 3.
